Pattern Fill in Designer Edition — & Free Foil Digital Patterns

I love foil, glitter and all things shiny!!   So, when I happened upon these Free Foil patterns from Mandy Art Market – I was thrilled!   Mandy has created a collection of seamless foil patterns called “Celebrate” and they are perfect for using in Silhouette Studio for all types of special occasions — birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries!  (They are listed as a July freebie — so don’t delay!  Don’t know how long they will be available for free!)

With Designer Edition, it is simple to add any digital patterns to your Silhouette Library!  (If you don’t have it — there’s a great deal running currently on Amazon — check it out!)   Once the designs have been downloaded, simply open your Studio library – and click on My Patterns.

From the Windows Explorer folder on a PC, or Finder Window on a Mac — select the pattern files & simply drag them to My Patterns.

And the patterns appear in the My Patterns Library!

Now that the patterns are your library — they can be used to fill any shape in Silhouette Studio.  I made a little birthday tag as an example.   Using the Elipse tool, draw a circle on your screen (Hint – If you hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard, while drawing the circle, you will create a perfect circle).  Then, repeat & draw a much smaller circle and place at the top of tag, for the ribbon tie.   Select both of them & right click – and select Make Compound Path.   (This combines the two circles into one shape.)

Now, simply open the Fill Pattern window — scroll down to My Patterns, and with the shape selected,  click on the pattern you would like to use.

With the Advanced Options – you can make all kinds of adjustments to your pattern!   You can rotate the angle of the pattern, adjust the size with “Scale Pattern”, and Adjust the Transparency with the slider bar.  You can even click on “Pan Pattern” to release the pattern & move it around.

Pattern Fill Options are perfect for Print & Cut projects of all types!  I’ve used a font to add text &  turn this one into a Birthday Tag — but you can create personalized tags, or tags for any occasion!  The choices are limitless!

Simply Group the text & the tag — Adjust the Cut settings to “Cut Edge” so that only the circles cut out.  Then add registrations marks & fill the page!  You are all ready to cut!  Never buy gift tags again!

So head on over to Mandy’s Art Market & download your free digital patterns!  If you don’t own Designer Edition — go get it now!   Hope to see some of your creations on the Facebook page!

Until next time — Hugs, Terri
