Day #6 – Trace & Detach — and Free Christmas Print & Cut files!

Trace & Detach - & Free Christmas Cut File

Christmas Eve is exactly 2 weeks from today!!!  Ahhh!   My shopping is almost done, and I’m working on wrapping.  In doing so, I decided to make my own labels & tags, instead of buying them!  (I always seem to run out.)

There are many, many free printable files on the internet — All you have to do is search to find one that you like.  Here is one that I found from Petite Lemon — and I think its really cute!    You will notice that the page is too large to add Print & Cut Registration marks.  Or perhaps you don’t want all of the tags, but just one or two!  An option is to “Trace & Detach” the labels you want.

Open the file as a jpg file.  I selected 144 dpi.  I found if I used a larger size file, it seemed to bog down the software.    Screen Shot 2015-12-10 at 11.00.26 AM

Next, open the Trace window & Select Trace Area.   Drag your cursor around the tag that you want to create.  These particular tags are so sharp & clear, that you really don’t have to tinker with the Trace settings for most of them.   Then, simply click on Trace & Detach.

At this point, the graphic is detached from the pdf file that you downloaded.

Simply Copy that tag & paste it into a new page.  Turn on the Registration marks for Print & Cut.  Using the Replicate tools, I was able to fit 7 of these tags onto one page.  I did add a little circle for the top of the tag, as the circle didn’t trace.   You then have to go to the Cut Settings window, and with the tags all selected, click on “Cut”.

Now, you simply “Send to Printer” to print the page and then load on your Silhouette mat & cut!!   Great way to use graphics that are not already designed for the Silhouette!     But, because I know this is a busy, busy time of year — I have done this for you with some Vintage Christmas Labels.    (The free file is not this tag, but the Vintage Labels at the top of the post).  The labels in the picture at the top of the post were printed on the Silhouette Clear Sticker Paper.   Click below to download the free cut file all ready for Print & Cut!
