Spring is Almost Here!!

Easter Subway Art

Easter Subway Art

With our unexpected Snow Day here in the Northern Virginia/DC area yesterday, and snow still on the ground — its hard to believe that Easter is just 3 weeks away!  Spring is even closer with Daylight Savings Time this weekend!   So, I realized that I had to get busy with my Easter sewing!    Today’s project is an embroidered Easter Subway Art that I created completely in Brother’s BES Lettering Software — and then cut the applique files on my Silhouette Cameo!!

The process of how to cut your applique files is detailed in my previous post “My Little Snowman” – but I have discovered a product that isn’t really new, yet  I’ve never used it for cutting fabric appliques on my Cameo!  Floriani Appli-kay Wonder  is a specialized webbing material which is fusible on  one side and sticky on the other!  So, its perfect for cutting your fabric applique pieces on the Cameo.  Just like any other interfacing (Heat n Bond lite – which I used previously) — you fuse your applique fabric to one side of the Appli-Kay Wonder.  Then, I left the paper backing on & stuck it down to my mat.  Now, since I left the paper on the back, I had to adjust the cut settings on my Cameo.  I used a Blade Setting of 4; Speed of 3; and Thickness of 33.   You may have to play around and adjust the settings on your Cameo – -as I find that they all have their own little personality.    Here are my bunnies cut out with Appl-kay Wonder.

So, here you can see that the fabric is caught by the tack down stitch & then proceeds on to finish up with the satin stitching!  This Embroidery Design fits my 8×8″ hoop on the Brother Quattro — but I have saved it in most of the most popular formats for other machines.     If you would like this design FREE, along with the free cut files — please subscribe to this blog &  email me at terrijohnsoncreates@gmail.com — Please include your name, email address & machine format that you would like.  I’ll email it out to you within 24 hours.    (I don’t know how to load it to be downloaded yet — but I promise I’ll learn!!)      If you are would like to purchase the Appli-Kay Wonder – just go to this link at my shop – http://sewspecialstudio.danemcoweb.com/shop/product/floriani-appli-kay-wonder/  and you can purchase it there!   (Don’t know why the picture doesn’t show up!)

Remember — you don’t have to own a Silhouette Cameo to stitch this design & use Appli-Kay Wonder!   You can cut these appliques by hand — no problem!!  Just let me know if you have any questions!  Hope you enjoy this design as much as I did — and Happy Easter!   Terri

  1. Terri,
this is a great, GREAT blog. Go girl! I haven’t tried a Silhouette Cameo yet — but who knows what this new year holds. Hope you, the family, and that wonderful new grandson are all well. Give him a big hug for me! We are loving being grandparents too. Iris will be 3 on April 15th – how quickly they grow up.

    hugs, steph

    • Thanks so much Stephanie — its tons of fun! I really miss you & wish we could spend another week in Huntsville! But not this year! Maybe we’ll have to make some other plans! Thanks for the kind words & you are right — the little ones grow too quickly — Love, Terri
