Happy Weekend! And its a long, 3 day weekend at that! I’ve never been a huge fan of Labor Day weekend, because it signals the end of summer, flip flops & no more wearing of white! (Yes, I follow that rule!) But, this Labor Day weekend, there are a lot of exciting things on the horizon — like next weekend, my entire family – 6 adults & 3 grandsons are all headed to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a week! And while we are there, we will be celebrating two birthdays – -mine & most importantly – my youngest grandson, Nixon turns 1! Hard to believe he will be a year old.
So, my daughter has planned a shark party — (fitting for the beach, right?) — and asked me to make some little favor buckets that she will fill with candy for the children attending. So I found these little buckets at Target – -just the right size! And the designs are from the Silhouette Design Store – -all in one file. (Actually, the black shark is another file.)
After cutting all of my files from permanent adhesive vinyl, I removed all of the little eyes on the big shark & the octopus, but the little black shark was proving more challenging — since this little guy is less than three inches long. The little gills are no bigger than an eyelash, and the eye is the size of a pin prick. Some of them came out when I weeded it — but here’s a little trick that worked great!
I have a tiny little lint roller in my studio that is no more than 1 inch in diameter. Pretty sure I got it at the Dollar Store one day – and I often use it to pick up loose thread when I’m embroidering. But, I whipped that thing out & quickly & lightly ran it over the little shark heads — and it picked those tiny little pieces right up! Just be careful, that you don’t pick up the shark too! Just barely press down! And there you have it — a quick & easy trick for weeding tiny little bits of vinyl! I know its virtually impossible to see in these pictures — but you can see the little shark gills on the roller!
So — 15 little buckets are all ready for Nixon’s party! I’ll share more party accessories in later posts! But today, I also wanted to share with you about Craftsy.com! If you aren’t familiar with them – now is the time to check it out — everything is on sale!
