Day #5 – Christmas Crafting – Cutting Larger Than the 12 Inch Mat

Cutting Files Longer Than a 12 Inch Mat in Silhouette StudioI love this mirror!   I made it 2 years ago with matte, permanent vinyl.  Its simple & easy to do, but its one of my favorite Christmas decorations. Its a large mirror that I set on my mantel.   (I’m sorry, I don’t remember where I bought this nativity design — and I know you are going to ask).  So, this tutorial is to show you how you can set up your software to cut larger than the 12″ mat.

This is what you will do if you are cutting up to 24″ long x 12″ wide:

Open the Design Page Window & Set your Page size to 12″ w x 24″ l.   Next, scroll down & select the 24″ cutting mat.

You can also reveal the grid marks on the mat by adjusting the opacity of the workspace here:

Now, if you want to cut a file longer than 24″ — you can do that!  Did you know you can cut up to 10′ (yes, that’s feet) long on the Cameo?

Again, in the Design page settings, adjust the Height to 36″ or whatever length you want to cut & Turn off the cutting mat.

You can also rotate the view of the window, so that its easier to create your files.  Notice the arrow is still on the top edge, indicating which direction it will feed into the mat.  This allows you to cut with a roll of vinyl feeding into the Cameo without the mat.

Crafty Deal of the Day – #5:  The Silhouette Roll Feeder is a great way to keep long rolls of vinyl feeding into the Cameo straight & even.   The longer the length, the more likely the vinyl is to slip.  The roll feeder keeps it feeding in straight!

Hope this helps you with cutting longer files!  Until next time –
