Don’t know about you — but these Fall days seem to be flying by at warp speed!  Hard to believe that Halloween is only 6 weeks away!  But, when I saw these free Jack-0-Lantern files from Mandy Art Market, I knew exactly what I was going to do with them!     These are so incredibly cute & come with 32 Mix & Match clip art files!  The possibilities are endless!

I’ve been hoarding an orange piece of StripFlock that was generously sent in a sample pack from Siser NA, along with 2 black long sleeve onesies for my 2 littlest grandsons!  And my shipment of the new Silhouette America products showed up – with Glow In the Dark Heat Transfer Vinyl — A match made in heaven!!

So, once I had downloaded the jack-o-lantern files, I selected a pumpkin with no face & brought it into Silhouette Studio.  Since it is a png file, it can’t be cut in Studio & has to be traced.    So, I selected the Trace Area in the “Trace” window & drew a box around the Pumpkin.  I unchecked the High Pass filter, and increased the threshold to 86 — just until the entire pumpkin turned yellow  -nothing magic about the number.  I then clicked trace!

Once the pumpkin is traced, move it to the side — outside of the workspace.  Next, open the jack-o-lantern face you want to use, size it down & repeat the tracing process.

Now, you have both the pumpkin & the face to cut out of the orange StripFlock!    To create the cut file for the Glow In the Dark HTV, I used just the face file.   Since we are going to be layering the Glow In the Dark behind the orange StripFlock, I wanted it to be just a tiny big bigger than the openings cut in the StripFlock.  So, to accomplish this, I just created an offset of .02 of the jack-o-lantern face.   This makes it a “tad” bigger, so that none of the black of the onesie will show through if I don’t line them up perfectly!

When cutting, be sure to Mirror image the files, since both of these Heat Transfer Vinyls are cut from the back.

Once both pieces are cut, I went to my heat press (you can do this with an iron, if you don’t have a press), and after covering with the teflon press sheet, first pressed the Glow In the Dark face for about 15 seconds, and peeled off the liner.

Then, I carefully, lined up the pumpkin to be sure none of the black was showing – -replaced the teflon press sheet – then I pressed the full  15-20 seconds, and peeled off the liner.    Once I had removed the liner, I replaced the teflon pressing sheet & pressed it all again — Just to be sure!

And there you have it!  In just a few minutes — two adorable Jack-o-lantern Onsies for my boys!   I love the texture of the StripFlock!  Makes it fun for the babies to touch & feel!   And “spooky” at night with the Glow in the Dark pumpkin face!!
